Xilinx Expands XtremeDSP Initiative Through Strategic Alliance With Cadence Design Systems

Alliance Provides Familiar DSP Design Tools To ASIC Designers Targeting Advanced FPGAs

SAN JOSE, CA--(INTERNET WIRE)--Mar 12, 2002 -- Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced that Cadence Design Systems has integrated the Xilinx(R) CORE Generator system with its popular digital signal processing (DSP) design tool, Signal Processing Worksystem (SPW). This integration gives ASIC designers access to a common DSP design environment for both Xilinx Virtex(TM)-II Platform FPGAs and ASICs. For complete information on Xilinx DSP solutions, visit www.xilinx.com/dsp.

"With the increasing capabilities of Virtex-II Platform FPGAs, like higher density, performance, features, and bandwidth, Xilinx FPGAs are becoming more and more established as a viable alternative to ASICs," said David Squires, director of the Xilinx DSP Center of Excellence. "This partnership and new tool flow bring high-performance DSP IP cores designed for Xilinx FPGAs directly into SPW, decreasing user time to market and introducing ASIC designers to Xilinx FPGA technology."

The alliance addresses the design needs of ASIC designers and also enhances the Xilinx XtremeDSP offering which currently includes advanced FPGAs, an extensive library of optimized DSP intellectual property (IP) cores, over 30 third-party development boards, the System Generator for DSP design tool, and customer training classes. Additionally, Cadence will leverage Xilinx's library of DSP IP cores and Xilinx will leverage Cadence's expertise in design capability given a majority of telecommunication companies use SPW.

"Customers have been asking for a seamless path between FPGAs and ASICs for some time," said Rahul Razdan, corporate vice president and general manager of Systems and Functional Verification at Cadence. "The new alliance between Cadence and Xilinx now makes this a reality, with the first Xilinx integrated version of SPW scheduled for release in early March."

Cadence and Xilinx will demonstrate advanced design environments for Virtex-II Pro Platform FPGAs at Programmable World 2002. For complete Programmable World 2002 program and registration information, visit www.xilinx.com/pw2002.
